Patrik Brundin Steps Down as JPD Co-Editor-in-Chief

Amsterdam, NL – We share the news that Patrik Brundin, MD, PhD has decided to step down as co-Editor-in-Chief (EIC), of the Journal of Parkinson’s Disease, with immediate effect, following his acceptance of a new position at Roche Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development. As a consequence of his moving away from academia, he now steps down from the journal to prevent any form of conflict of interests.

Having led the Center for Neurodegenerative Science at Van Andel Institute for a number of years where his research team focused on experimental models and novel therapies in Parkinson’s disease, Dr. Brundin explains his decision to step away from the journal: “For the past 12 years, I have been honored to be co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Parkinson’s Disease, from its days as a fledging journal to its current place as a leading publisher of groundbreaking Parkinson’s research. During that time, I’ve been privileged to work alongside former co-editor-in-chief Bill Langston, PhD, and current co-Editor-in-Chief Bas Bloem, MD, PhD – as well as the exceptional team at the journal and IOS Press. I’m deeply grateful to the Parkinson’s community and the outstanding advocates who contribute their time, talent and expertise to the journal. Together, we have built something truly special.

“Next week, I am starting a new journey as Therapeutic Area Leader for Movement Disorders at Roche Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development, and will be stepping down as co-Editor-in-Chief. I have cherished my time with the Journal of Parkinson’s Disease and look forward to its bright future and continued impact. My heartfelt thanks to everyone who has played a role in the journal’s growth and success – a trend that I am confident will continue for many years to come.”

For now, the journal will be in the capable hands of Editor-in-Chief (EIC) Bas Bloem, MD, PhD and the search for a new co-EIC is underway. Rasjel van der Holst, executive publisher of the journal, comments: “Patrik has been an amazing and dedicated Editor-in-Chief, developing the journal from infancy to the established and esteemed publication that it is today, and his shoes will be very hard to fill.
